The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed

From BOINC Wiki
Jump to: navigation, search

The message "The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed." is NOT a BOINC error in any way. It is a Windows error.

It means that the Windows Installer service isn't enabled and as such, you cannot install or uninstall anything, as that uses the Windows Installer service.

To rectify this, go to your services applet. Start->(all Programs->Accessories->)Run->type services.msc and click OK.

Maximize the window that opens and enlarge the first column so you can read all the service names correctly. Scroll down to "Windows Installer". It should have a startup type of Manual and not be running (Started).

It's probably set to disabled on your system, so right-click on the line Windows Installer, choose Properties from the drop-down menu, then choose the General tab and select Manual from the Startup type list. Then click Apply and OK to exit this window.

Exit the services applet.

Then try to start the BOINC installer again.
