Davyd McColl at Seti told us that he can get the screen saver to work with the password protection if he first locks his workstation.

By default, in BOINC 4.xx to 5.10.45, if your screen saver is password protected in Windows, the screen saver will only show the BOINC logo. This is an incompatibility between BOINC and Windows and has so far been unsolvable by the developers. They blame Windows.

When you first lock your workstation when you leave it, the Seti screen saver will work perfectly all right. To do so, press CTRL+ALT+DEL and click Lock Computer. That should do it.
