"I have a problem with my PC when I need to shutdown. I get a box saying that "Windows is unable to shutdown BOINC.exe". Most of the time it does ok but a few times I had to click on "End Now" so Windows could shutdown."
This is a problem with the quick shutdown time on applications in Windows XP. See this entry in the Microsoft Knowledge Base which will show you how to pro-long the time-out period.
Exiting BOINC manually before a shutdown is also always an option.
