I think all we do with Seti@Home entries is write them in wingdings. ;-) You're right on the sans-serif being default. Can you describe in detail, on some page here in the wiki (make one) what you meant with "I upped the font-size in .mw-body-content to 1.0em"? Thanks. Via this page we can add what there is still to do to get this Wiki the way we want it to. You can add to it, you can sign up to what you want. I propose we add a list of things here, and the person who wants to work on something, adds his name at the end of it. All right?
@all, I'm looking into using one or more different fonts, but need some input on that. What do you think is a good font, and font size? We have to keep in mind that it needs to look good on all platforms, be it PC, Mac, tablet, phone. The default font is arial, I think. Jord (talk) 15:44, 18 June 2016 (UTC) I noodled with it a bit.. @all, I was out with a 40C (104F) flu for the past days and am still not 100%. I'm around and read here, but won't be back in action until the world stops spinning around me every time I turn my head. Jord (talk) 13:39, 8 June 2016 (UTC)@all, it's going to take me much longer to come back. I'm completely drained of energy and only want to be behind the keyboard at this time for GTA V. Not much else. Mostly warming the couch watching Person of Interest (seasons 1 to 4). I'm not putting any time on a return. Best reach me by email from now on, as I don't read that much here anymore either. Jord (talk) 07:32, 15 June 2016 (UTC) Take care of yourself! We're almost done, pretty much at the infamous 80% of 80-20 point. Most the remaining is error codes or glossary, so most of the important stuff is done pretty much. Enjoy! Bowtieguru (talk) 20:26, 15 June 2016 (UTC)
@Jord - Can you add .txt to the allowed file upload extensions? I have a sample xml file to upload, part of configuring Fermi GPUs - Bowtieguru (talk) 17:15, 14 June 2016 (UTC) Forwarded to Neil. Jord (talk) 07:32, 15 June 2016 (UTC) Neil added the ability to upload .txt and .xml files. Jord (talk) 20:30, 17 June 2016 (UTC) Thanks! Bowtieguru (talk) 04:53, 22 June 2016 (UTC)
@Bowtieguru, All the breaks have been removed, resulting in a hairy ball of concatenated phrases. Hmf. It's a paste-fest of <cr>-*-space, it's quickest if you start from the bottom. Other breaks have disappeared, too If it helps, I can give you the original FAQ text, I have it in Wikipedia code (with BBCode stripped), but also in UTF-8 code (with BBCode and HTML code), and if you're into it, all of the FAQs, including the ones from the other languages. All the end-of-line and spaces are in their normal places as well. Tell me what you need and I'll email it to you. Jord (talk) 23:09, 31 May 2016 (UTC) Now that I've dug in a bit, the formatting is so light and different that it's actually better the old html was stripped away. It's turning out well.. and the new line-item bullets look cool, too. - Bowtieguru (talk) 17:15, 14 June 2016 (UTC)
Copy all FAQ titles to their indexes - Jord- doneCopy all FAQs - Jord (I'm done) and vaxfan (I think I'm done)- done Read all FAQs, mark which need rewrites .. hmm, but how? Vaxfan - ?possibly add a wiki entry listing the Wikis that need re-writes, and we can then cross them out and date them once done? Okay, how does one do that? Jord (talk) Until then, I'm tracking my progress on my profile page. Bowtieguru (talk) 20:27, 24 May 2016 (UTC) Splendid idea! Let's do that! Jord (talk) 15:29, 27 May 2016 (UTC)

Rewrite/touch up/add formatting FAQs Vaxfan - If we are going to do this, do we need a "Style guide" to be worked to to minimise the re-rewrites of things that have already been done? Yes, that would be preferable. Thursday I plan to sit down and go try out different styles, fonts and that, plus a table through which we point to the old FAQ and who wrote it. Jord (talk) table I use is: {| class="wikitable" style="text-align: center;" ! Original writer ! Original FAQ ! Date & time |- | | [http://boincfaq.mundayweb.com/index.php?language=1&view=] | |- |} E.g. {| class="wikitable" style="text-align: center;" ! Original writer ! Original FAQ ! (Cont'd from above) I see the old version table at the bottom of ea page - some tags were blasted on import. If you can give me the headers to paste in I can rebuild the old version boxes, or let me know how to morph the old ones into new ones. - Bowtieguru (talk) 18:23, 2 June 2016 (UTC) I'll trawl through all FAQs and add the new box at the bottom. It's kind of relaxing to do so. I know there are some pages with the old version table still there, I'll get there eventually. :) Jord (talk) 16:39, 3 June 2016 (UTC)
For now, I'm going through and repairing the gross damage, tossing in breaks for readability and inserting links. The (many) lists-of-steps were trashed, unfortunately, they're now big balls of paragraph. I'm rebuilding them as '*' ul's. No other formatting or headings, maybe some strongs here and there. Bowtieguru (talk) 20:27, 24 May 2016 (UTC) It would help to have at least one FAQ finished as this would be a good example to define style and layout Agentb (talk) 00:03, 25 May 2016 (UTC) I've finished up the misc-general section to give you an idea of what I'm doing Bowtieguru (talk) 01:46, 25 May 2016 (UTC) Thursday didn't work out. This moment I have no energy anymore either. Hopefully that I'll find some time tonight or tomorrow. Jord (talk) 15:29, 27 May 2016 (UTC) Add images for FAQs that need them The uploads work, and the old images can be found at http://boincfaq.mundayweb.com/resources/ Jord (talk) 15:29, 27 May 2016 (UTC)
Or update images for FAQs that already have them Proof read ready FAQs - Vaxfan - How do we flag that they've been proof-read? I don't know, ideas? Jord (talk) If we have the list of rewrites as suggested above, we can note that in there. User:KSMarksPsych May i suggest a comment on each associated Discussion Page to the effect that a page has been PR'd OK, and if not OK either an edit or comment be made. Agentb (talk) 00:03, 25 May 2016 (UTC) The Discussion page it is. :) Jord (talk) 15:29, 27 May 2016 (UTC) I've been tagging each page's discussion w/ 'first pass ok' and any notes, a 4-tilde datestamp, works great - Bowtieguru (talk) 19:32, 1 June 2016 (UTC)
Add the full explanation of what CreditNew is, where it fails, what can be done to fix it - JasonG I'll take writing this topic. However it will take time, as I am goign to compile the past generations of credit granting methods Kiska (talk) 01:53, 25 May 2016 (UTC)
Add sections for Windows, Linux, Mac for different FAQs FAQ titles start with a capital and end with anything but a full stop '.' This is i know pedantic but FAQs are questions, so should always be written as such, and end with a ? Agentb (talk) 00:03, 25 May 2016 (UTC) Not all FAQs are questions. I have never seen an error end with a question mark. Does your Blue Screen of Death ask politely that you write down its numbers? Most all of the questions we have are in the How To? section. But let's do pedantic and call them the BOINC FAs. :) Jord (talk) 15:29, 27 May 2016 (UTC) To be clearer, if it is posed as a question, then a question mark is used. Many things are not asked as questions. For example "What causes error 4756278346?" needs a question mark --Agentb (talk) 00:36, 28 May 2016 (UTC)
Titles don't like braces { and } in them. These cannot be escaped as far as I found. Someone has to trawl through all the FAQs at http://boincfaq.mundayweb.com/ and copy the missing links per FAQ over. - Bowtieguru I never thanked you for this rather thankless job you took upon yourself. But really, thank you. Jord (talk) 15:29, 27 May 2016 (UTC) Thanks! I just finished a work-study assignment where I ported several sites at WWU from kludge to drupal, so I'm damn fearless.. and I get to splash around in mediawiki for the first time, so I'm a happy puppy. I'm glad to help out. - Bowtieguru (talk) 19:39, 1 June 2016 (UTC)
Discussion points:
What is the oldest version we keep in the FAQs? BOINC 6, BOINC 7? Vaxfan - There are still a number of people that run BOINC 6, I'm not too sure about earlier ones, do we NEED to remove the 'old' info? No, we don't NEED to remove the old info. I'm happy to keep it. Although it may need rewrites still. Jord (talk) 15:29, 27 May 2016 (UTC)
Can the Einstein moderators check all Einstein FAQs and see which ones are still viable, if any? - Kathryn Thank you.
What do we do with projects? Do we add them in, leave them out? I feel to leave them out, as there are places enough that show which are available, active etc. Vaxfan - I agree in general, but maybe just a list of projects & links to them here? All right, but till how far do we go? Add in all the obscure ones as well? Add a list of old and dead ones? Jord (talk) 15:29, 27 May 2016 (UTC) I've added in all projects according to the BOINC Manager Add Project wizard and added their data as well. Perhaps that we can get a template to read that, anyone know of an XML to wikipedia add-on that we can ask Neil for? Jord (talk) 23:02, 31 May 2016 (UTC)
I understand from Agentb that you cannot add to Discussions. I've sent that off to Neil, perhaps a permission problem. Although Users should be able to create Discussions. I dunno. I think I'll make a page on the main index for discussions for now, in which you can leave just about anything, all right? Jord (talk) Problem solved, Discussions now open for business Agentb (talk) 00:18, 22 May 2016 (UTC)
May i ask we use the wiki convention of 4 tilda's to sign each and every edit ? Agentb (talk) 00:03, 25 May 2016 (UTC)
Aren't they called tilde's? ;-) Uhm, when in a one on one discussion on a page, use three for short sign-offs as well, until the end of conversation and then use four? Three only signs your name. Jord (talk) vs Jord (talk) 15:29, 27 May 2016 (UTC) My only tongue in cheek riposte here is, a tilda is ginger beer and vodka cocktail and so four would be perfectly suitable for signing out, but even so there is a typo... It should be tildes and not tilda's (especially not tilde's ;-) ) --Agentb (talk) 00:36, 28 May 2016 (UTC) Smacks Agentb around with a wet herring. Jord (talk) 23:02, 31 May 2016 (UTC) I went to the local co-op for a 6-pack of ginger beer.. I'll let you know what I find, but ending each page w/ 4 tildas limits me to only 3-5 pages a night, max. If I promise not to talk and go slowly w/ 3 tildas ea, I can hang on for 7 or 8 pages.. maybe.. - Bowtieguru (talk) 19:32, 1 June 2016 (UTC)
I also like my white space a lot, it helps me breath Agentb (talk) 00:03, 25 May 2016 (UTC) Use breaks. <br> Jord (talk) 15:29, 27 May 2016 (UTC) <kitkats> don't have that effect... --Agentb (talk) 00:36, 28 May 2016 (UTC) Smacks Agentb around with a rotten tuna. Jord (talk) 23:02, 31 May 2016 (UTC)
Is there a guide somewhere on how to write entries? I'm completely unfamiliar with wiki. Being a disorganised person, I intend to start somewhere in the middle, with something I know well enough - which happens to be boinc terminology. Yep I picked the easy one ;) as per above, I'll try to put a note on my profile where I am. And as far as I understood I edit the page and any comments go on the discussion page? What if I need help with a particular item? Ha I already learned something. If you want a box, put a space at the start of the line. :) Oh and I already warned Jord - I suffer from depression. I may disappear and reappear with no apparent rhythm or reason. If you really need to get hold of me, use email. Ok and now four wriggly lines? William (talk) 09:32, 7 June 2016 (UTC) I found Jord had linked something in his welcome email. me bad. I suppose I can take it from there ... William (talk) 13:02, 7 June 2016 (UTC) I have a few links at the bottom of my profile page which might be handy, and I just finished the misc faq's. Mediawiki's markup is new to me, too, it's a little odd at first but very simple and effective. It's pretty cool. I'm keeping track of where I am on both the table above and on my profile page, and adding any broken links up there too. Enjoy! It's a great way to spend an evening.
